The Dominican Monastery Radlje ob Dravi

The Dominican convent was founded in 1251. It was intended for the education of wealthy noble daughters, and it developed pharmacy (the first pharmacy in Europe, from 1666), educational, musical, charitable, medical and pastoral activities.

The current appearance of the complex mainly shows architectural details from the early Baroque period from the 17th century. Although exceptional architectural elements have been preserved only in individual elements, the entire complex, due to its involvement in the cultural landscape, exhibits one of the most beautiful ambient designs in Slovenia.

The monastery is currently used as a residence for citizens – 10 families. With complete renovation (renovation of 6,500 m2 of the building and extension of 1,500 m2, arrangement of land for a herb garden and renovation of the bridge between the monastery complex and Radlje Mansion), the spa, herbal and pharmacy part of the activity could be returned to the monastery and become a tourist, economically functional and not just a cultural facility.

The conceptual design of the facility includes the following options:

• establishing a dietetic service activity (healthcare, medicinal and pharmacy),
• production and processing of herbs for the needs of the center and for sale,
• educational activities in the field of dietetics and
• establishing a center for comprehensive spiritual and mental rehabilitation.

Advantages:

• The Dominican monastery was one of the most beautiful and prominent buildings in Radlje ob Dravi.
• The owner of the building is also the owner of the plot.
• The monastery is located in the immediate vicinity of the center of Radelj ob Dravi and right next to the regional road to the Radelj border crossing (border with Austria).
• The monastery is currently used for rental purposes and already has tenants.
