ZDR-1 regulates employment relationships between employees and employers in the Republic of Slovenia. Employment contract:

  • must be in writing ,
  • may be concluded for a fixed or indefinite period ,
  • must contain: clients, job position/type of work, place of work, duration, working hours, salary and other remuneration, annual leave, notice periods, collective agreement, start date

Full-time working hours according to Article 143 of the ZDR-1:

  • must not exceed 40 hours per week ,
  • It can also be determined by law or collective agreement as 36–40 hours ,
  • for particularly risky jobs, even less than 36 hours (part-time) may be set.

Overtime work (Article 144 of the ZDR-1):

  • maximum 8 hours per week ,
  • maximum 20 hours per month ,
  • maximum 170 hours per year (up to 230 hours possible with the written consent of the employee),
  • A working day can last a maximum of 10 hours .

Employment beyond full-time – can I have two full-time jobs? NO.

ZDR-1 does not state that "it is prohibited to have two full-time contracts", but:

  • full-time working hours are a maximum of 40 hours/week,
  • Together with overtime and supplementary work, you may not exceed legal working time limits.

Supplementary work (Article 147 of the ZDR-1): Total weekly working hours (full-time + supplementary work + overtime) may not exceed 48 hours.

An employee who already works full-time may exceptionally conclude an additional part-time employment contract with another employer if:

  • it is a profession in short supply according to the ZRSZ data or
  • for educational, cultural, artistic or research works,
  • has the prior written consent of the employer for whom he/she works full-time,
  • The scope of supplementary work is a maximum of 8 hours per week.

Other options

  • full-time employment + supplementary work (Article 147) : yes, if it concerns deficit/educational/cultural/artistic/research jobs and a maximum of 8 hours/week.
  • Full-time employment + afternoon shift: yes, a very common solution (afternoon shift is a supplementary activity to full-time employment).
  • full-time employment + author's/enterprise contract: possible, but the following must be taken into account:
  • taxation,
  • Is it not really a hidden employment relationship?
  • a possible non-compete clause with the primary employer.
