Pohorje is an attractive area for spending free time in all seasons. At the same time, Pohorje is recognized as an important nature conservation area at the national and European level. Because of this, it is a place of numerous, sometimes conflicting, interests and conflicts. That is also why in 2024 the state and six municipalities established a wider protected nature area, the Pohorje Regional Park.

Tourism yes, but how much and what kind? What are the limits to growth? Can growth traps be identified? Is it possible to direct the development of tourism as sustainable and within the carrying capacity of the environment? What are the experiences from other Alpine environments?

We will seek answers to these and similar questions at the round table "How to avoid the traps of mass tourism in Pohorje?" The event will take place on May 26, 2025, at 5 pm in Mislinja (Lopan Business Center - small hall, Šolska ulica 55, Mislinja).

The roundtable will discuss the views of:

  • Andrej Grmovšek, head of the management group of the Pohorje Regional Park;
  • Prof. Dr. Matej Ogrin, University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Geography) and President of CIPRA Slovenia, the Alpine Protection Society;
  • Uroš Rozman, director of RRA Koroška doo and president of the Slovenj Gradec Tourist Association;
  • Boštjan Paradiž, director of Vabo doo

The discussion with the interlocutors will be moderated by Peter Zajc, M.A. (RRA Koroška).

You are cordially invited.
