Tea with a reason: Winter sports and climate resilience in Slovenia, Planica

  • Datum
    26. 3. 2026
  • Ura 11.30 - 13.00
  • Lokacija Planica

The public agency SPIRIT Slovenia, in cooperation with its program partner the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, invites you to Tea with a Reason about the future of winter sports and climate resilience in Slovenia, which will take place on the sidelines of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Planica.

Slovenia has long been recognized for its excellence in winter sports. It is home to top athletes, passionate fans and institutions that have significantly marked the global heritage of skiing. The Slovenian Alps are a key part of our identity, as well as a tourist and economic space. Places such as Kranjska Gora, Planica and Pokljuka symbolize national pride and international recognition.

Meanwhile, climate change is already changing Slovenian winters. Shorter snow seasons, rising temperatures and increasing reliance on artificial snowmaking are creating economic and logistical pressures on ski resorts, event organisers and local communities whose livelihoods depend on winter tourism. Scientific findings show that the number of days with snow cover in the Alpine region has decreased significantly in recent decades. This poses a significant challenge for the long-term sustainability of winter sports in Slovenia and the wider Alpine region.

This brings not only environmental uncertainty, but also financial and social risks for everyone who has co-created and supported the Slovenian winter sports ecosystem – from equipment manufacturers and catering providers to insurance companies, investors and municipalities.

Participation in the event is free, but prior registration is required via this link . Registration is open until March 19th or until all available places are filled.
