Programme
12.00 Lecture: History of tourism in Slovenia and tourism types
Lecture title: History of tourism in Slovenia - when did the first tourist come to our places and Tourist types according to content or activity
In the first part of the lecture, we will present tourism in Slovenia, which has a centuries-long and interesting history. Even in Roman times, people visited our places for their healing springs and natural beauty. Pilgrims to the Holy Land also often passed through our places. The development of tourism as we know it today began in the 19th century, when the first health resorts, hotels and tourist associations were established. Tourism in our places received a special boost after World War II. Today, Slovenia is a recognizable tourist country, but its beginnings date back to a time when the word "tourist" did not even exist.
We know tourism in different forms, as people have different interests and desires when traveling. Some travel for relaxation, others for sports, health, culture or entertainment. Because of these differences, tourism is divided into several tourism types depending on the content or activity. Each tourism type has its own characteristics, special visitors and a different offer. Knowing the tourism types is important for understanding modern tourism and the development of the tourism offer. We will learn about these forms of tourism in the second part of the lecture. In addition to already established activities, e.g. shopping, sports or pilgrimage tourism, we will also touch on some newer types of tourism such as dark tourism, adventure, ecological or space tourism.
Lecturer: Dr. Iztok Bončina (Palladio Agency), long-time tourist guide, freelance photographer and photojournalist, professor of art history and history, diver, astronomer and traveler

We will raise questions with participants about whether Koroška has enough tourist guides, what kind of guides modern tourists want, how we can better connect guides with providers, agencies, schools and program organizers, and why a tourist guide is an important ambassador for Koroške.
