This month, representatives of the Regional Development Agency for Koroška, the Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, the Institute for Nature Conservation of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, and the Slovenj Gradec police station carried out a direct surveillance campaign in the wider area of the Pohorje and Kop Regional Park, in which we mainly checked unauthorized driving of vehicles in unauthorized environments.

This time, the campaign took place during the week of the international mountain bike festival in Kope. The inspections were carried out in two groups in the areas with the highest tourist and recreational traffic. Several violations were detected.

The campaign was carried out primarily with the aim of raising awareness and alerting visitors to the protection regimes of the Pohorje Regional Park, which was established last year, as well as preventing illegal actions by visitors that can damage nature or parts of it and endanger the habitats of plant and animal species.

Direct supervision in nature will soon be established in the area of the Pohorje Regional Park with nature conservation supervisors, whose key tasks will be monitoring the state of nature, identifying potential violations in the protected area, and warning about protection regimes.

One of the major problems in Pohorje is still the illegal driving of motorized vehicles in the natural environment - motocross/enduro motorcycles, quad bikes and snowmobiles. For more effective control, it is crucial to change the legislation as soon as possible with appropriate fines for such violations and to regulate vehicle registration.
