In recent days, a press conference was held in Vienna, where the participating partners from three countries - Austria, Slovenia and Hungary - presented a new cycling route and tourism product: Meridiem Trail.

We were also represented by representatives of the Regional Development Agency for Koroško and the Municipality of Radlje ob Dravi or the local Social Development Institute Radlje ob Dravi , as Koroška is joining this important tourism product as a partner, which brings new opportunities for tourism development to the destination.

The 600 km long Vienna-Villach cycle path will be officially opened on 1 March 2026, entering Slovenia in Radlje ob Dravi, then joining the Drava Cycle Path, via Dravograda and back into Austria. The long-distance cycle path leads through five Austrian federal states, through the Hungarian cities of Sopron and Köszeg, over the Radelj Pass in Radlje ob Dravi, past Muta, all the way to Dravograda and from there to Labot on the Austrian Koroškem. The Meridiem Trail overcomes 4,400 metres of elevation gain (from Vienna to Villach) or 4,100 metres of elevation gain (from Villach to Vienna) and runs exclusively on existing cycle paths or cycling routes.

Meridiem Trail uses a GPS system and a digital guide or application, which makes cycling along the route an exploration of destinations – it also includes local tourist providers (accommodations, restaurants, experiences), excursion points and mobility offers. The "RidewithGPS" application is already available for download to users.

The Meridiem Trail is not just a new cycling route, but a symbol of integration, sustainable development and a common European story, in which Koroška has an important place. Cycling tourism in Europe is booming, and our destination is following suit. We look forward to many domestic and foreign tourists who, in addition to exploring Austria, will also be able to discover the beauties of Koroške – a treasure trove of surprises.
