On Monday, May 26, 2025, a round table "How to avoid the traps of mass tourism in Pohorje?" was held in Mislinja, organized by the Regional Development Agency for Koroška .

Pohorje is not (yet) among the leading Slovenian tourist destinations. The destination as a whole cannot be said to be subject to mass tourism or to be an area with strong tourist traffic, as is the case for some other areas in the Alpine world of Slovenia (e.g. in Gorenjska). It is an attractive area for spending free time in all seasons. At the same time, Pohorje is recognized as an important nature conservation area at the national and European level. Because of this, it is a place of numerous, even conflicting, interests and conflicts. This is also why in 2024 the state and six municipalities established a wider protected nature area , the Pohorje Regional Park.

The Mayor of Mislinja Municipality, Bojan Borovnik, welcomed everyone present. This was followed by a round table discussion moderated by Peter Zajc from the RRA Koroške.

The following views were exchanged at the round table:

  • Andrej Grmovšek, head of the Pohorje Regional Park management group at the Slovenian Institute for Nature Conservation;
  • Prof. Dr. Matej Ogrin, University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Geography) and President of CIPRA Slovenia, the Alpine Protection Society;
  • Boštjan Paradiž, director of the company Vabo doo, president of the board of directors of the Slovenian Cableway Operators Association;
  • Uroš Rozman, director of RRA Koroška doo and president of the Slovenj Gradec Tourist Association.
