Sustainable mobility as a link between quality of life and climate risks
The Regional Development Agency for Koroško (RCM Koroška) and the urban planning studio Prostorož, hand in hand, held a seminar in Slovenj Gradec on the topic "Sustainable mobility as a connecting link between quality of life and climate risks in smaller towns".
All those present were welcomed by Dr. Peter Pungartnik, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Slovenj Gradec, and the Director of RRA Koroške d.o.o., Uroš Rozman.
Koroška, as a sparsely populated and somewhat remote border region, faces different challenges in the field of mobility than larger urban areas. Solving such issues therefore needs to be addressed with an expanded approach that takes into account all spatial, social and environmental aspects of local communities. In this context , sustainable mobility in the sense of integrated transport planning proves to be a connecting factor that can contribute to improving accessibility, connectivity and integrated management of public space.
The main presentation of the seminar on the development of the Žerjav settlement was given by Maša Cvetko from Prostorož. It is a project in which our Regional Mobility Center Koroška also indirectly participated, and yesterday he filled the participants with optimism that even in small towns, with the right approach, involving residents in designing solutions and, last but not least, a clearly conceived vision, a breakthrough is possible.
An important aspect of the event was the participation of many different actors. The work and mission of the RCM Koroška was presented by Aleš Rupreht from RRA Koroške, d.o.o., "Mobility Planning in Remote Areas" by Tadej Žaucer from MOPE, the topic of "Transport Poverty and On-Demand Transport" by Jošt Šmajdek from MOPE, and "Regulation of Watercourses in the Drava Area" by Mateja Klaneček from DRSV. This was followed by a roundtable discussion.
The broad and professional participation enabled a sincere and in-depth discussion, creating a space for shared learning. The seminar showed that small places – while facing great challenges – can also be places of great opportunity. Only by connecting the professions, exploring new approaches and, above all, working together will we be able to arrange the places we want to live in.
