The joint campaign of surveillance and awareness-raising of visitors in the western part of the Pohorje Regional Park is a good example of inter-institutional cooperation

The main purpose of the campaign was to remind visitors of the rules of conduct in the protected area and to raise their awareness of the importance of protecting sensitive nature. Special attention was paid to the ban on cycling on the popular mountain trail between Kope and Ribniška koča. This regime was in force even before the establishment of the Pohorje Regional Park, but so far there has been no control over its observance.

The Pohorje plains, species-rich grasslands on the Pohorje foothills, are still in full bloom during this period. Among the numerous plant species, the Pannonian marmot, one of the protected plant species, is also in bloom. We would like to remind you once again that the collection of protected plant species and fungi is prohibited throughout the entire area of ​​the Pohorje Regional Park.

The blueberry ripening season is also starting, so we would like to remind visitors of the rules regarding picking wild berries and mushrooms. Picking for commercial purposes is not permitted in the park area. For personal use, the legislation allows picking up to two kilograms of wild berries or mushrooms per person. This also does not apply in areas of the first protection regime, i.e. in forest reserves and protective forests, where picking is prohibited.

Pohorje is an attractive destination to visit in all seasons, but it is also a habitat for numerous plant and animal species and a place of diverse, often conflicting interests. That is why responsible behavior by all visitors is crucial for the preservation of its exceptional natural heritage.

The Pohorje Regional Park was established in 2024 as a wider protected nature area jointly established by the state and six municipalities. It is managed by the Slovenian Institute for Nature Protection , and also by RRA Koroška doo , LTO Rogla–Zreče GIZ and RIC Slovenska Bistrica .
