The 5th Day of Amateur Culture on Štrekna is just around the corner, which traditionally marks the month of May. Once again, all visitors can expect a variety of events on and along the popular Štrekna cycling route, which will once again connect us intergenerationally on an interregional and national level. This year's event, which takes place under the slogan "Culture in Motion" , will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The 2026 Amateur Culture Festival , a national celebration of amateur creativity, will connect cultural events throughout Slovenia between May 15 and June 15. The main tribute will be dedicated to the poet Srečko Kosovel and the writer Zofka Kveder on the 100th anniversary of their deaths, and the festival also joins the celebration of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the poet Anton Aškerec and the 150th anniversary of the birth of two giants of Slovenian modernism – Ivan Cankar and Dragotin Kette . The slogan "Culture in Motion" emphasizes culture as a space for meeting, creativity, movement and well-being – values that perfectly intertwine with the concept of the events at Štrekna .

The Štrekna cycling route will once again connect diverse creators along the entire route, from Dravograda to Velenje. The varied route with renovated technical heritage facilities of the former railway line offers an attractive backdrop and opens up new opportunities for cultural creators and visitors. The good cooperation that developed with the establishment of the cycling connection between the two regions is thus being successfully upgraded year after year in the field of amateur culture.

The event is held under the umbrella of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Slovenj Gradec Regional Development Agency and the Regional Development Agency for Koroško in cooperation with the JSKD OI Dravograd , JSKD OI Velenje and the Šaleška Valley Tourism Institute . The importance of interregional networking is increasingly confirmed - together we are more visible, stronger and more successful. Štrekna is thus becoming a space for meetings and networking, where the former railway line is now revived by the creative energy of amateur culture.

The event will be focused on the morning . The focus will be on the associations and numerous creative people who respond en masse to the invitation to participate every year, proving that volunteerism, creativity, cooperation and solidarity are still strongly rooted in our space. Their enthusiasm certainly deserves special recognition and respect.

An important role in the organization is also played by the RCM Koroška (Regional Mobility Center), which operates within the Regional Development Agency for Koroško. Its mission is to promote sustainable mobility, and in cooperation with the SPVCP, the police and municipalities , they will also ensure the promotion of safe cycling and the development of cycling culture.
