Carinthians support tourism in the region

We conducted it on RRA Koroška in collaboration with the research company Arhea. 440 residents participated, expressing their opinions on the impact of tourism on their lives and making suggestions for its development. The survey showed a positive perception of tourism, local support for its further development, and at the same time an expressed desire for further strengthened promotion of the destination, improvement of the quality of tourism infrastructure , and development and improvement of the quality of tourism offer.

Interest in tourism and its impact

Residents expressed considerable interest in tourism on Koroškem, with an average rating of 4.0. Support for tourism was even higher, with an average rating of 4.3. A third of residents are actively involved in the tourism industry, either as providers or through family members, while a third have no direct connection to tourism.

There is broad agreement among residents regarding the positive impact of tourism on the quality of life and social climate in the region . There is also broad agreement that tourism does not place an excessive burden on the environment and infrastructure.

Tourism development on Koroškem

Carinthian residents believe that it is necessary to strengthen the promotion of the destination and improve the quality of the tourist offer, and to a lesser extent, they believe that the prices of tourist experiences should increase. They see the most important investments for the further development of tourism in investing in the promotion of the destination and infrastructure by municipalities and the state, and investing by providers in the development of the offer.

Among the areas that are most promising for tourism growth in Koroškem, residents most highlight outdoor or active tourism (hiking, cycling, skiing) and recreational and sports tourism, and less so business and event tourism.

Among the priorities for the future development of tourism, residents highlight the preservation of nature, improvement of road connections, and expansion of tourist activities throughout the year, not just during the tourist season.

Guest profile

According to the local population, the most suitable guest profile for the destination Koroška is active and sustainably minded visitors. Groups such as schools and clubs are also recommended, and less so business guests or guests interested in well-being.

This type of survey among the general population will be conducted once a year, with the aim of regularly monitoring support for tourism development in the region, and the aforementioned activities will be accompanied by other research and the acquisition of relevant data on tourist flows at the destination.
