We are proud that in 2024, RRA Koroška became the first Alpine Convention info point in the eastern part of the Slovenian Alps. The Alpine Convention is an international treaty for the protection of the Alps and the promotion of sustainable development in the Alpine region and represents the cooperation of eight Alpine countries and the European Union. We have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention.

The Alpine Convention is an international treaty with guiding principles for sustainable living in the Alps. The Convention provides a legal basis for the protection of sensitive Alpine ecosystems, regional cultural identities, heritage and traditions in the Alps. It is also a living mechanism that enables the signatory states to jointly address important and cross-sectoral issues. The Convention is based on the transnational and cooperative character of the signatory states:

  • Federal Republic of Germany,
  • Republic of France,
  • Republic of Italy,
  • Republic of Slovenia,
  • Principality of Liechtenstein,
  • Republic of Austria,
  • of the Swiss Confederation and
  • European Economic Community.

The Alpine Convention protocols contain specific measures to implement the principles formulated in the Framework Convention and define concrete measures for the protection and sustainable development of the Alps. The protocols adopted so far cover various areas:

  • Spatial planning and sustainable development.
  • Hill farming.
  • Nature protection and landscaping.
  • Mountain forest.
  • Tourism.
  • Energy.
  • Soil protection.
  • Traffic.

The signatory states established a Permanent Secretariat at the 7th Alpine Conference in 2002. It supports the bodies established by the Alpine Convention, provides expert, logistical and administrative assistance, and assists the states in carrying out the activities required by the Alpine Convention and its protocols.

Who is the project intended for:

  • To local communities.
  • Ministries and government departments.
  • To the local population.
  • Medium.
