Purpose of the project:
It is to improve monitoring and forecasting of potential natural disaster threats and the ability to take more effective bilateral action in the event of further natural disasters.
Specific objectives:
- Establish a system for monitoring potential natural disaster threats and warning of landslides.
- Improve competences for cross-border interventions in the event of natural disasters.
- Improve bilateral crisis management.
Who is the project intended for:
The project is intended for all border municipalities between Slovenia and Austria; especially in the 14 municipalities of the Karavanke Geopark and their fire brigades and civil protection authorities, which are intensively working to improve bilateral operational cooperation.
The planned achievements are:
- A joint cross-border landslide warning system with sensor technology, a communication network and a network of weather stations has been established.
- Cross-border communication tool established for better risk assessment.
- Equipment of fire brigades in the cross-border Karavanke Geopark to improve operational capacity (packages for forest fires, strong winds and floods, including large pumps, drones, radio stations, etc.)
- Bilateral test alarms and cross-border test exercises (floods, forest fires) carried out.
- A bilateral crisis management plan has been developed (communication plan, proposal for a bilateral operational corridor and bilateral catalogue of countermeasures).
