The Ministry has approved European funds for nature conservation and restoration of endangered habitats on Pohorje

The Pohorka 2 project continues and builds on the activities and good practices of projects already implemented in Pohorje in the past, especially the previous cohesion project Pohorka. It is intended to improve the status of species and habitat types in the Natura 2000 area Pohorje, which includes parts of the Podravska, Koroške and Savinja regions . Pohorje is an area of ​​exceptional natural value, recognizable by its extensive forests, bogs, streams and species-rich grasslands, which have also been preserved due to traditional land use.

The project will implement measures to improve the condition of the most endangered habitats and species. Activities will focus on restoring grassland, forest and wetland habitats, improving forest structure, restoring degraded areas and providing peaceful areas for wildlife. A permanent network of eco-cells will also be established, which will make a significant contribution to the long-term conservation of biodiversity.

The implementation of measures will aim to reduce pressure on the most endangered habitats and improve the ecological connectivity of the area.

The cohesion funds of the Pohorja 2 project will also be used to improve and supplement the interpretation of nature in the area of ​​the Pohorje Regional Park: interpretation centers at Kope and Tre Kralje, educational trails at Rogla and Ostruščica, and interpretation points at Bajgot, Areh, Komisije, Lovrenc na Pohorje, and Vitanje. The protected nature area of ​​the Pohorje Regional Park was established by the state and six Pohorje municipalities two years ago and covers just under 52 km2 of the upper part of Pohorje.

The European Regional Development Fund will contribute 3,969,189.04 euros of European funds for the Pohorka 2 project, worth a total of 4,674,824.16 euros.

The beneficiaries of the project funds are the Slovenian Institute for Nature Conservation, the Municipality of Mislinja, RRA Koroška doo, Slovenian State Forests , Ltd. , and the Slovenian Forest Service.
